The area now called "Mid-City" used to be called "Back of Town." It was the area just outside of the original Vieux Carre, or Old Town. When the Old Town began to expand, Mid-City became New Orleans' first suburb.
The centerpiece of Mid-City is the beautiful 1500-acre City Park, the fifth largest urban park in the States.
As its name suggests, there is easy access from Mid-City to Interstate 10, Bypass 610, and the intersection of Canal and Carrollton Streets, both of which criss-cross the Crescent City and both end up at the Mississippi River and at Lake Pontchartrain. (You will just have to look at the map to see how this happens!)
